Nemesis The Warlock: Eps 18-20
The 2000AD millennium party was a dismal affair, held in the basement of a shitty pub with only a handful of creators and I had to buy my own drinks.
I’m blown away by Nemesis the Warlock: the Definitive Edition. My compliments to the publishers, Rebellion, and especially their designer Gemma Sheldrake for the truly inspired front and back covers.
Such a Definitive Edition requires a Definitive Commentary, a companion piece for when you’re looking at the beautiful art by art-creator Kevin O’Neill and the other talented artists that followed him. So it’s time for The Secret History of Nemesis the Warlock, an episode by episode revelation of what really went on behind the scenes.
Episodes Eighteen and Nineteen – The End of Torquemada
Once again, Nemesis and Torquemada battle it out, but the Grand Master’s alien body breaks down and he is transformed into a huge slug-like creature, a giant Termite who is then hacked to pieces by his own Terminators.

I had been most reluctant to attend the millennium 2000AD party, after all the serious grief I’d experienced from editorial during the late 90s, as I relate in Kiss My Axe! The Secret History of Sláine, but I really thought I should make the effort. It was a big mistake.
It was a dismal affair, held in the basement of a shitty pub with only a handful of creators and I had to buy my own drinks. Worse, 2000AD editorial had brought along a fan I’d never met before. Curiously, he was the only fan I can recall being present and I’d barely sat down when he angrily lectured me about a major flaw in continuity with Torquemada’s demise as featured in Episode 19.
