Nemesis The Warlock: The Past Lives of Torquemada & A Bedtime Story
‘Candida! Have you ignored my most dreadful warnings and been iniquitous with the Infernal? Unseemly with the Unearthly? Tell me all! No! No! Tell me nothing!'
I’m blown away by Nemesis the Warlock: the Definitive Edition, Vol 1. My compliments to the publishers, Rebellion, and especially their designer Gemma Sheldrake for the truly inspired front and back covers.
Volume 2 is now on sale from the 2000AD store, and a copy is winging its way towards me as I write. I can’t wait to see it.
Such a Definitive Edition requires a Definitive Commentary, a companion piece for when you’re looking at the beautiful art by art-creator Kevin O’Neill and the other talented artists that followed him. So it’s time for The Secret History of Nemesis the Warlock, an episode by episode revelation of what really went on behind the scenes.
Episode 5 - The Past Lives of Torquemada
In this episode we go back through the various lives of Torquemada until the era of the first Torquemada, leader of the Spanish Inquisition.

I think the way reincarnation is described here is valid. The only possible omission is that the phenomenon, or at least the way it’s revealed to us, generally forms a pattern of perpetrator – victim – perpetrator – victim. But Torquemada is just the perpetrator. If the subject is of interest to you, I thoroughly recommend Other Lives, Other Selves: A Jungian Psychotherapist Discovers Past Lives by Roger Woolger. It’s a very rational and thoughtful book. Some years ago I met Roger and was very impressed by him.
