I’m blown away by Nemesis the Warlock: the Definitive Edition. My compliments to the publishers, Rebellion, and especially their designer Gemma Sheldrake for the truly inspired front and back covers.

Such a Definitive Edition requires a Definitive Commentary, a companion piece for when you’re looking at the beautiful art by art-creator Kevin O’Neill and the other talented artists that followed him. So it’s time for The Secret History of Nemesis the Warlock, an episode by episode revelation of what really went on behind the scenes.


Episode 3 – The End of the World

There’s a tragic beauty about this adventure showing the end of the world.  The plot came directly from a Doctor Who story I submitted to  BBC TV featuring liquid aliens: the Primords. I’ve talked about it in my book Pageturners and how I think it had huge potential. It was a commonplace system for me, and probably other writers, that we’d try our stories elsewhere and, if they weren’t bought, we would use them in 2000AD.  Because we sold all rights to 2000AD, they could not be our first port of call – the financial rewards just weren’t sufficient and that is still the case today. But I’m delighted the story found a home in Nemesis, which fits it so well, demonstrating the nature of Torquemada’s unspeakable crimes. Here, he really was Torquemurder!
