The Lord of the Flies, the shape of things to come, the one who waits on the edge of your dreams
I’m blown away by Nemesis the Warlock: the Definitive Edition, Vols 1 and 2. My compliments to the publishers, Rebellion, and especially their designer Gemma Sheldrake for the truly inspired front and back covers.
Volume 2 is now on sale from the 2000AD store.
Such a Definitive Edition requires a Definitive Commentary, a companion piece for when you’re looking at the beautiful art by art-creator Kevin O’Neill and the other talented artists that followed him. So it’s time for The Secret History of Nemesis the Warlock, an episode by episode revelation of what really went on behind the scenes.
Episode 4 – Enter Nemesis
I loved this episode! The art is a bit rocky in places but the story holds it together, Nemesis’s human form is great, and we meet three skinheads called, respectively, ‘Be Pure! Be Vigilant! Behave!’
The Warlock dealing with them is first rate. And we gain some further insights into the alien’s feelings about humans. They are not reassuring!
The creatures that live on this planet never cease to fascinate me…
The way a young human, at a certain age, undergoes a strange metamorphoses, turning itself into – that –from goo goo to glue glue.
Episode 5 – Torquemada the Police Chief
Great scene between Purity and Torquemada. And there’s Mrs. Thatcher on the wall, photographed at a Reapers convention! It all feels very sinister and dark, but then we didn’t know about life in the UK under Starmer in 2025.
