Psychokiller: Ep. 6
‘It’s surprisingly difficult to kill a symzoete. I remember the trouble we had with Rasputin.’
EPISODE SIX Pages 41-48
Dave’s interpretation of Doctor Morbus is fascinating. He shows many aspects of the man behind the mask.
There’s the Doctor Who-like character in the penultimate picture on Page 42, the scary action figure in the last picture on that page and the wise magus on the next page. But I was particularly fascinated by the more feminine side to him in the third picture on Page 42. There’s also a touch of the rock star about him in other scenes. This is a long way away from the grim-faced, always scowling hero that was ubiquitous in comics up till now. I love this kind of experimentation and risk taking, which our comic Toxic! was all about.
We see the bitter anger and the anguish in Mary Anne’s face, strongly suggestive of how Lily the Fink harmed her as she says, ‘Just hold him still. I want to finish the bastard off.’ Then she goes to work on him with the electric carving knife: ‘Decapitated with surgical precision’.
There’s also a hint in this episode that Doctor Morbus has a supernatural life span confirming his magician status, as he relates how ‘It’s surprisingly difficult to kill a symzoete. I remember the trouble we had with Rasputin.’
