Today, there seem to be more theocracies than ever. My family came from Ireland, which was a recognised cruel, evil and oppressive theocracy until fairly recent times. Among its numerous crimes were the treatment of young women in the Magdalen laundries and the restrictions on family planning. It even goes back to the time of the Great Hunger, where the ruling English Raj used and funded a Quisling Church, willing to carry out its commands. And, according to an insider, (an Irish high-ranking ex-civil servant who has written blogs for my other website patmills.wordpress.com), that theocracy is still going on today behind closed doors. That doesn’t surprise me. The Catholic Church is so talented at continuing to oppress its sheeplike, brain-washed followers, but in such a way that it is difficult to call it to account.
In Britain, there were also small theocracy, Irish-influenced Catholic colonies that were self-contained and resisted all boarders. If Catholic children were cut off from all outside influences, the clerics rightly figured out they would be less likely to rebel against the Church and its Canon Laws. A bishop actually talks along those nauseating lines in one of my old school text books. I was fortunate to have a Protestant side to my family, which a Catholic relative told me was partly responsible for my dissent …
I’ve read enough sections of current Catholic Canon Law and interviewed two Canon Lawyers (a priest and a nun) to know that it’s as odious in its own way as Sharia Law. Of course it’s not just Catholics who have these colonies where religious law comes first. Every religion and cult will have its own laws which often challenge the law of the land. Thus, Rotherham featured in the excellent book, Child Sexual Abuse by David Pilgrim.
David saw the Islamic Rotherham theocracy as essentially patriarchal and had this to say:
Violence and coercion then are logical tactical extensions of patriarchal cultures to ensure compliance with male authority. The latter is on a continuum of soft and hard power. At one end of the spectrum is where women and children themselves simply accept that patriarchy is normal and desirable. At the other end is violence, both sexual and non-sexual (including genital mutilation and so-called ‘honour killings’). At all points, male authority is maintained and male power is personally achieved and enjoyed.
Catholic theocracies are remarkably similar. But Catholics are so much better at hiding their oppression and appearing as sweetness and light to the outside world. I’m sure it’s the same with all the Abrahamic religions. In fact, a good Jewish friend of mine, who was brought up as an Orthodox Jew, described what she and other women had to go through and it was far from pleasant.
When I first watched The Handmaid’s Tale, it seemed like a fascinating but futuristic piece of science fiction. Now, however, the present has caught up with it. In some states in the USA, women have few rights over their own bodies.
Thus there is the current case of a woman, kept on life support, because the mother is expecting a baby. According to the Daily Mail:
Emory University Hospital – where the nurse previously worked – informed Adriana’s family that, although she was legally dead, she was not allowed to die.
The apparent reason, according to the hospital’s spokesman, is that it’s acting ‘in compliance with Georgia’s abortion laws’.
Catholic J.D. Vance has denounced ‘selfish women’ who do not wish to have children as ‘cat lovers’. He has openly talked about the USA becoming a theocracy, where such laws would be commonplace. Vance was converted by Dominican monks who were the religious order the fanatical Torquemada came from.
I’m sure the Dominicans are different today, but in Torquemada’s era they were evil personified. It would be rather like, in a few centuries time, the Nazi party reforming and holding itself up as a force for good.
This is why I’m enjoying the very last series of The Handmaid’s Tale, because there’s a rebellion about to break out and I want to see if the ministers of Gilead finally get what they so richly deserve. I hope a baseball bat features strongly and is put to good use.
In the world of Nemesis The Warlock, the galactic theocracy of Termight was finally destroyed. So we will never again hear the Grandmaster’s holy words: Be Pure! Be Vigilant! Behave! But I still miss it.
So, in the final volume of my Requiem Vampire Knight series, which I am currently writing, the USA is now called TUSA. The Theocracy of the United States of America. The Knights of Solomon have been sent from TUSA to Hell to bring the werewolf Torquemada back to the land of the living. They are under orders from President Vance, who has taken over after the death of President Trump.

2. The Werewolf continues to turn into a human.

4. He glares at us and we can see his JOWLS and the loose flesh on his face – like in the reference.
TORQUEMADA: A HELL BITCH WHO DELIGHTED IN ENDLESSLY USING A FIENDISH DEVICE TO TRANSFORM ME INTO A WEREWOLF, THEN BACK INTO A HUMAN, TO HER VILE AMUSEMENT.
CRUSADER’S VOICE:
AH, YES. THE DILDO: DIRECT INTERFACE LYCANTHROPE DNA OSCILLATOR.
(Gode is the French word. Hope there’s an easy equivalent! )
5. The Knights look down at Torquemada’s body and they see he has an enormous penis – although it would be funnier if we DON’T see it. Just the angle they are looking at it. They look amazed!!
KNIGHT: I UNDERSTAND, YOUR HOLINESS. BUT WE CAN SEE FROM YOUR MAGNIFICENT MEMBER, YOU ARE INDEED THE ONE.
KNIGHT: YOU WILL FERTILISE MANY WOMEN AND RESTORE TUSA TO ITS FORMER GLORY.
6. Knight hands him a robe.
KNIGHT: HERE IS YOUR ROBE, HOLINESS, BEFITTING YOUR STATUS AS GRAND INQUISITOR.
TORQUEMADA: I LOOK FORWARD TO MAKING THE ACQUAINTANCE OF THE CAT LOVERS AND SHOWING THEM THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS.
(2): ALTHOUGH I WILL TAKE NO PLEASURE IN MY PLEASURE, OF COURSE.
In future spin-off volumes we will see the full evils of Torquemada – a literal wolf in sheep’s clothing – and the Catholic Theocracy of TUSA. One which I feel I’m uniquely qualified to write about.
Let’s just pray the reality of J.D. Vance’s Theocracy never comes to pass.
