Hello and welcome to Iconoblast!
I’m Pat Mills, an Anglo-Irish comic writer and my CV’s far, far too long, so I’ll just mention a few of my credentials. I created 2000AD and Misty, developed Judge Dredd, wrote Marshal Law for Marvel Comics, Batman for D.C. Comics, and a host of characters for 2000AD, as well as Charley’s War, Doctor Who comics and Accident Man – now a movie series starring Scott Adkins.
Iconoblast is where I take you behind the scenes to show you how your favourite subversive characters were created with my Secret History of Comics, starting with Marshal Law, followed by Misty and Charley’s War. And in Pageturners I share what I’ve learnt – and am still learning – about comic writing, film writing, novel writing and how new writers can sell their stories.
A lot of my writing is free, such as Pageturners and the weekly chapters of Serial Killer, my dark comedy thriller novel co-written with Kevin O’Neill, who sadly passed recently. And I welcome your comments on all of them.
But if you become a paid subscriber, you’ll get lots more:
Read new Secret History of Comics as I publish it in weekly instalments, and exclusively engage with the content.
A free ebook copy of Secret History and Pageturners when they’re complete.
Join private discussion threads to connect with, debate and share ideas with me and other paid members.
Early access! Two weeks ahead of free subscribers, you’ll hear what I’m working on, such as the new Hellbreaker story Fire in the Blood, drawn by Ian Ashcroft, Requiem Vampire Knight, drawn by Olivier Ledroit who’s now back on the series, and the WW1 thriller novel I’ve been planning and researching for FOUR years, which is almost ready to start writing and serialising here. More on that soon.
And if you really love what I’m doing and want to go the extra mile, I’d be honoured if you’d consider becoming a Founder member of Iconoblast:
I will send you signed and dedicated paperback editions of Secret History and Pageturners when they’re both published in 2023.
We will have an hour’s one-to-one session to talk about your creative project, or just chew the fat.
Extra perks to be decided, such as signed editions of my books and merchandise
I look forward to sharing my ‘Writer’s Journey’ with you: my inspirations; where I get stuck; where I hit problems and how I solve them. I’ll also cover what I read and watch to get me in the writing zone.
It’ll be an Iconoblast!
Pat.
