AI hallucinations?
The man who wasn't there.
My first experience of an AI Hallucination.
Have you had any such experience? My query with AI was:
GRABHAM ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE IPSWICH and this was its response:
The query likely refers to Sir Patrick Grabham, a former student and chairman of the board of governors at St. Joseph’s College in Ipswich, or to someone named Grabham connected to the college. Sir Patrick Grabham was a distinguished figure in Ipswich who had a strong connection to the school. St. Joseph’s College is a co-educational day and boarding school in Ipswich founded by the De La Salle Brothers.
Sir Patrick Grabham: He is a notable person connected to St. Joseph’s College Ipswich. He was a distinguished figure in the Ipswich community and had a strong and long-standing relationship with the school.
St. Joseph’s College Ipswich: This is a co-educational day and boarding school with a Christian ethos, situated on a 60-acre campus near the center of Ipswich. The school was established in 1937 to provide a Catholic education for boys in East Anglia.
Connection: The query “GRABHAM ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE IPSWICH” most likely points to the connection between Sir Patrick Grabham and the college.
But it was untrue. When I put in the same query words a second time it came up with nothing.
When I searched for Sir Patrick Grabham, it came up with nothing.
It would appear that this guy never existed!
I have to assume that AI hallucinates in this way elsewhere. It’s surprisingly creative!
Currently AI says:
AI Overview
+1
Sir Patrick Grabham is not listed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors for St. Joseph’s College Ipswich; rather, the search results do not contain this specific information and show unrelated “St. Joseph’s” institutions
. To find the correct information, you will need to search for “St. Joseph’s College Ipswich” directly and look for contact information on the official website.
It remains a mystery! Unless anyone knows a Grabham who went to St Josephs?

Don't say "AI hallucination". Say "lie".
This is a timely post, Pat. I made an innocuous query of Google two nights ago - "does Jay Leno have kids?", and it pumped this out to me (link of a screengrab):
