Thanks! The view held at the time was that 1914 - 1918 was as debauched as the 'Swinging Sixties'. But there was a consensus view by everyone that it should all be forgotten about once peace returned. There's some hard evidence that all the arms businessmen too old to be conscripted abused their positions of power in the way I've described here.
