Thanks. I think my venom stems from the way my fellow UFO watchers seemed besotted by them. Probably giving them a feeling of pleasure - 'beads for the natives' . I could vaguely sense it, but I was so hostile to them, it barely registered

Definitely. I hadn't realised that Star Trek had an episode first talking about the prime directive called 'Return of the Archons'

I was heavily invested in UFOs in the 70s. By the time I was reading 2000 AD, I already preferred CE3K to Star Wars and had read several comics stories that rode on the back of the astronaut alien theories that were abound at the time (including one called The UFO Connection - thank you, Star Wars Weekly). There were also the repeats of brilliant TV shows like UFO and The Invaders.

The problem these days is that even with almost 5 billion smartphone users, there's not one shred of compelling evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial visitors. It's a crying shame.

Good point. There’s some playing down of biological UFOs - the amoeba-like thing I saw. AFAIK ‘The Cosmic Pulse of Life’ is the only book that covers them, with photos

“The bottom line where UFOs are concerned is they are a waste of space. They have never improved the quality of life of humanity, so they can fuck off.” Is a classic Pat Mills line!!

Lash's point on the Archons certainly places Gene Roddenberry/Star Trek's 'prime directive' into a new perspective.
